Centipede Grass Plugs
Centipede Grass Plugs
PLEASE NOTE: Centipede will ship May 2024 These individually grown Centipede Grass Plugs are 100% healthy and ready to plant in your lawn! This grass can easily spread 6" inches to a foot in each direction per growing season depending on your location. Planting is easy. Just use a hand trowel or plugging tool to dig a small hole every 1 ft in your yard. Put in a plug, pack with dirt, and give it a good watering and you are done! Plugs will take root within 10-14 days during the growing season. Keep the area mowed short (.5"-1.5" inches) to promote lateral growth and discourage weeds. This product will have a slightly longer lead time to allow for U.S. Department of Agriculture inspection and certification.
One advantage of our plugs is that there is little to no transplant shock because they are grown in the trays. This allows the plug to take root and grow faster as it doesn't require time to recover from transplant shock.
Planting
Follow our planting guide and then just make sure you keep them well watered for the first 2-3 weeks.
✅ Arrives Fresh Guarantee - We carefully pack and ship your grass on the same day, which allows it to arrive fresh throughout the continental United States. In the event of a shipping delay that causes the grass to die in transit, we will send replacement trays. Since grass is a living plant, you must unpack your trays the same day you receive them and notify us within 24 hours of any issues.

Maintenance Tips
Spring |
Fertilize once when grass begins to turn green. Be very careful when applying fertilizer to centipede grass. Too much Nitrogen can potentially damage the centipede grass. Look for a fertilizer blend 5-10-30. Do NOT apply fertilizer until frost is no longer a threat. Mow to 0.5" to 1.5" in as needed. |
Summer |
Continue mowing as needed, water only if extended drought. You should not need to fertilize at this time unless soil sample reveals otherwise. |
Fall |
Mow as needed, but frequency will be reduced. Towards the end of the fall, leave the centipede grass slightly higher (1.5-2") to allow for insulation throughout winter. |
Winter |
No maintenance needed while dormant |
How to Plant
Planting Centipede plugs is a breeze! With a simple hand trowel or plugging tool, create small holes at 1-foot intervals in your yard. Insert a plug into each hole, pack it gently with soil, and give it a generous watering. Voilà - you're done! In just 7 to 10 days during the growing season, these plugs will firmly take root, kickstarting your journey to a lush lawn.
- Mow the existing lawn / weeds as short as possible.
- Water the area (digging holes will be easier in soil that is slightly wet)
- Use one of our tools or a garden trowel to dig holes to a depth of about 1.5"inches
- Place a plug into each hole
- Go back and firmly step on each plug, which ensures good contact with the soil
- Water! Water new plugs immediately and each day for the first 2-3 weeks.
