Let's break it down some: Healthy Soil = Healthy Grass and plants. If you want to have the best chance at success it is important to test your soil prior to installing new sod plugs or even starting a new garden.

Without knowing the nutrient values in your yard you could be inadvertently over-applying fertilizer or using the incorrect combination of nutrients. For example, Zenith Zoysia loves nitrogen but excessive or heavy application can lead to a stunted root system and even die off. A slow-release nitrogen product, applied at the correct rates and in accordance with a soil test can be just what your lawn needs to make the neighbors green with envy.

Zenith Zoysia prefers a pH of around 5.8 and 7.0. When the pH levels are off it is harder for grass to absorb zinc and manganese. The blades can lose color and even appear withered. At this point, some homeowners automatically reach for fertilizer or lime thinking it will be the solution but this may do more harm than good. Lime neutralizes the soil’s acidity but your soil could be “sweet” or more alkaline already.

Not only will a soil test save you the stress of wondering what you did to an otherwise seemingly healthy lawn but it can also save your budget - you’ll only need to buy and apply the tools your lawn genuinely needs.

Here at ZoysiaPlug we want you to have a successful lawn and gardening experience. With our customer's best interest in mind we present SoilKit - an extensive, all-in-one kit allowing you to test your soil at home. Once completed and mailed off, SoilKit will not only go over your results in a plain-speaking manner but also suggest product recommendations if you have issues that should be addressed. This is thanks to the fully comprehensive Mehlich III extraction method which tests for: pH, Buffer pH, Phosphorus, Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Manganese, Iron, Copper, Boron, CEC, and organic matter.
